CRUMBS FOR HEALTH

The Sicilian Delegation is always very active with the program Crumbs for Health. The program was inaugurated in Palermo on July 18 and the first delivery of needed items (diapers, baby food and biscuits) for children of disadvantaged families aged 0 to 3 years took place in the Church of S. Francesco di Paola.
The distribution of baby products continued in the premises next to the Constantinian Church of S. Maria degli Agonizzanti, under the guidance of the Archbishop of Monreale, H.E. Mons. Michele Pennisi, Prior of the Delegation. The delegation also organized a collection of food products, lasting twelve hours, in a shopping center in Milazzo, province of Messina. By the end of the day they had collected 120 liters of milk, approximately 500 kilos of pasta and other food items to be donated to the needy.

H.R.H. Princess Beatrice, Grand Prefect, was received by H.E. Most Reverend Msgr. Antonio Staglianò, Bishop of Noto, at the Episcopal Palace of the Diocese. Also present at the meeting were the delegate for Sicily Don Lucio Bonaccorsi of the Princes of Reburdone, the Vice Delegate Nobile Antonio di Janni and Knight Commanders Gasperino Como and Carmelo Sammarco. H.R.H. the Princess spoke with the Bishop of the desire to cooperate in the Program ‘Crumbs for Health’ that, thanks to two deliveries provided on 17 June and 2 August, provided two months of food for needy children and families to the soup kitchen of S. Corrado, administered by Brother Rino.
On this occasion, H.E. Most Rev. Msgr. Antonio Staglianò presented a book on the Cathedral of Noto while H.R.H. Princess Beatrice of Bourbon Two Sicilies presented the Monsignor with a book on the Archbishops of Monreale and a commemorative medal of the Sicilian delegation representing King Charles of Bourbon and the current Head of the Royal House, H.R.H. Prince Charles, Duke of Castro.
Immediately following the meeting the Bishop celebrated a Solemn Pontifical Mass in the Cathedral in the presence of a large delegation of Knights and Dames from various Sicilian provinces. Representatives from Calabria were also present. Following the religious ceremony H.R.H. the Grand Prefect and the knights went to the soup kitchen of S. Corrado where they served a meal to the children. Read more

The Vice Delegate for Sicily, Nobile Dott. Antonio di Janni visited the diocesan dining hall of San Corrado in Noto, managed by Brother Rino who, together with other volunteers, cares for approximately 50 needy each day. The Delegation presented the center with food items for the dining hall and included it in its list of recipients for the Project “New Crumbs of Health”, ensuring their autonomy for approximately one month.
In the coming months the Grand Prefect, H.R.H. Princess Beatrice of Bourbon Two Sicilies, will visit the center and together with the Bishop of Noto, M.R.E. Mons. Antonio Staglianò, will develop an aid program for the poor of the diocese.
On that same day, the Vice Delegate also went to Acireale where he presented the Bishop, M.R.E. Mons. Antonino Raspanto with the diploma of Ecclesiastical Knight Commander of Grace. Together they then visited the San Giovanni Bosco Center, including it in the project “New Crumbs of Health”. The center is a community at the service of the poor that has been welcoming single mothers and families in difficulty since 1933, providing comfort and care to the less fortunate as well as training lessons, laboratories and courses to facilitate employment opportunities.

Messina, Friday, July 1, 2016 – The ceremony for conferral of the Gold Medal of Merit of the Sacred Military Constantinian Order of St. George took place on July 1, 2016, at the headquarters of the Aosta Mechanised Brigade.
The Vice Delegate for Sicily, Dott. Antonio di Janni, Knight Grand Cross of Grace, together with Prof. Giovani Bonanno, Knight Commander of Merit with Star and Rev. Father Vincenzo Castiglione, Ecclesiastical Knight Commander of Grace, was received by the Commander of the Aosta Brigade, General Mauro D’Ubaldi. During the ceremony the Aosta Brigade was congratulated for its humanitarian work in Afghanistan, highlighting not only the military aspects but also the humanitarian work carried out in support of initiatives and events to foster peaceful coexistence among peoples of different ethnic backgrounds and religious beliefs in order to promote peace and brotherhood. The Sicily Delegation was presented with two Crests of the Mission in Afghanistan and the Aosta Brigade while the Delegation awarded two celebratory medals to the Brigade. The official ceremony began with the fanfare of the Aosta Mechanised Brigade performing a concert in honour of the Constantinian Delegation. At the conclusion of the ceremony Colonel Corrado Benzi, Chief of Staff of the Aosta Brigade, was awarded a certificate of Knight of Merit with Star.
