SICILY: HANDOVER OF THE PLAQUE AND GRANT TO THE DEPARTMENT OF SPECIAL DENTISTRY OF ACIREALE’S HOSPITAL

On Saturday 11th of February, on the occasion of the recurrence of the 20th year of activity of the department of special rehabilitative dentistry on a disabled person, the ceremony of handover of the grant for the rehabilitative impiantology on disabled patients was celebrated in the conference room “Rino Nicolosi” of S. Marta and S. Venera’s hospital.

The exeptional work of the team directed by Dr. Riccardo Spampinato had benefited from a first aid on the part of the Order that had contributed to a non-stop erogation of the services during the particoular period of the pandemic.
Dr. Rosario Cunsolo – Medical Director of Acireale and Dr. Maurizio Lanza – General Director welcomed H.R.H. Princess Beatrice of Bourbon Two Sicilies, Grand Prefect, arrived to the hospital, accompanied by the Vice Delegate for Sicily Noble Antonio di Janni and by Esq. Antonino Amato, referent of Catania and Province, as well as organizer of the event, and by Mr. Massimo Putrino.
The day started with the readout of a message from On. Alessandra Locatelli – Ministry of disability, afterwards there have been interventions of On. Gaetano Galvagno – ARS’s President, of On. Luca Sammartino – Vice-president of the Sicilian Region, of Dr. Giovanna Volo – Regional Councilor of health On. Nicola D’Agostino and of H.E. the Most Reverend Mons. Antonino Raspanti, Acireale’s Bishop, President of the Sicilian Episcopal Conference.
At 11.00 Dr. Giovanni Di Giacomo was awarded as winner of the grant and he will develop the implantology on a disabled patient. H.R.H. Prince Charles of Bourbon Two Sicilies, Duke of Castro and Grand Master attended the event in videoconference and praised the work of the department confirming the closeness of the Royal Family and of the Constantinian Order to this humanitarian project implemented by the department of special rihabilitative dentistry in a disabled patient.
At the end of the cerimony the Head of the department took the floor, Dr. G. Riccardo Spampinato – Director UOC Special Rihabilitative Dentistry ASP of Catania, that has retraced the twenty years long path of the department and thanked the Order for its precious and continuous support.
Right after the conference, H.R.H. Princess Beatrice handed over to Dr. Spampinato a medal of the Sicilian delegation with the effigies of Princesses Maria Carolina and Maria Chiara on one side and on the other side the Sicilian eagle with the Bourbonic emblem.

On Nov. 20, a Mass was celebrated by Reverend Antonino La Paglia on the feast of Saint Albert the Great in which many Knights and Dames of the Constantinian Order participated: the Dames Giuseppina Crescimanna, Angelica Zarba and Margherite Scarpinata and the Knights Alessandro Balsamo, Matteo Bertino, Gioacchino Borzellino, Calogero Di Naro, Salvatore Favata, Claudio Giuffrè, Giuseppe Mastrobuono and Elio Virone. The latter renewed the prayer to St. Michael, at the end of the celebration. The Confraternity of St. Albert was also present. At the end of the liturgy, the Knights participated in the solemn procession of the simulacrum of St. Albert.

On Nov. 20, at the end of the celebration in honour of Saint Albert the Great, a moment of solidarity was held in favour of the community of San Cataldo, with donations of clothing and food supplies.

Monthly appointment on Nov. 26, in Alcamo, at the historic sacristy of the parish church and Church Santa Maria Assunta of Alcamo, for the “Bricole di salute” project in favour of indigent minors in the Alcamo area. Monsignor Aldo Giordano, Archpriest of the Church of Alcamo, Comm. Antonio Fundaró, Commander Pier Francesco Mistretta, Knight Mario Vitiello and Gaetano Di Gaetano were present at the handover. Commander Pier Francesco Mistretta, on the occasion, also on behalf of the Vice Delegate Antonio di Janni, emphasized how the Constantinian Order is close to those in need.
Mrs. Castrenza Pizzolato and Professor Filippo Nobile contributed to the signification donation.

At the beginning of November, the activities of “Briciole di Salute” project took place in several cities of Sicily, among which Monreale, S. Martino delle Scale, Patti, Carini and S. Cataldo.

Tuesday November 8, H.E. the Most Reverend Monsignor Gualtiero Isacchi received H.R.H. Princess Beatrice of Bourbon Two Sicilies, Grand Prefect, along with Vice Delegate Noble Antonio di Janni. The Princess explained to the Archibishop the charity activities carried out by the Order in Sicily and all over the world.
At the end of this cordial meeting, in addition to various publications, the Princess presented the Archbishop with a commemorative medal coined on the occasion of the 17th centenary of the Edict of Milan, which was celebrated in Monreale by the Grand Prior His Most Reverend Eminence Cardinal Renato Martino and by His Most Reverend Eminence Monsignor Michele Pennisi, Constantinian Prior of Sicily, in front of Princess Beatrice.

On the same date, a solemn Pontifical was held at the Sanctuary of San Vito, a church entrusted to the Constantinian Order . It was presided over by H.E. the Most Reverend Monsignor Angelo Giurdanella, Bishop of Mazara, who received from H.R.H. Princess Beatrice the certificate of appointment as Knight Grand Cross of Ecclesiastical Grace.

“Briciole di Salute” activities continued in the presence of H.R.H. the Grand Prefect, specifically on 12 November in Noto.

On 13 November, at the conclusion of the three-day celebration in honour of San Martino, Bishop of Tours, a Pontifical Mass was held at the Abbey of San Martino delle Scale, presided over by the Most Reverend Father Roberto Dotta.

The Solemnity of All Saints was celebrated by the Knights and Dames of Palermo and the province of Trapani with a Eucharistic celebration presided by Mons. Salvatore Grimaldi at the Basilica Magione in Palermo.

On Friday, October 14, a group of Knights of the Sicilian delegation visited the “Madonna della Tenda di Cristo” community in Acireale, and as part of the “Briciole di Salute” project, offered some products for the community’s needs.

On October 15, the Vice Delegate met His Eminence Monsignor Giuseppe Schillaci, Bishop of Nicosia. During the meeting, the Vice Delegate illustrated the activities carried out by the Delegation over the years. Bishop Schillaci expressed his interest in collaborating with the Constantinian Order. As a result of this cooperation, the Bishop received various products such as diapers, baby pasta, and homogenized meats and fruits. At the end of the meeting, the Vice Delegate presented Mons. Schillaci with the Appointment Diploma granted by HRH the Grand Master.

On October 15, the Vice Delegate Antonio di Janni donated to the Bishop of Nicosia His Eminence Monsignor Giuseppe Schillaci, some products belonging to the “Briciole di Salute” project.

On October 15, a solemn mass was celebrated for the beginning of the pastoral ministry of His Eminence Monsignor Angelo Giurdanella at the Cathedral of Mazara del Vallo.

On October 21, the apostolic administrator of the Diocese of Noto, H.E. Mons. Antonio Staglianò, appointed Frà Volantino as founder of the community of the Brothers and Little Sisters of Jesus and Mary and as director of the Saint Corrado canteen.

On October 26, the Vice Delegate and Mrs. Lia Giangreco donated diapers in favour of “Casa del Sorriso” in Monreale. The products were delivered to Mr. Angelo Pipitone, volunteer of the structure.
