“A EUROPEAN SAINT OF THE HUMBLE AND THE POWERFUL”

The book “Francesco di Paola un Santo europeo degli umili e dei potenti” (Francis of Paola, a European Saint of the Humble and the Powerful) by Giuseppe Caridi was officially presented on August 7 in the Conference Room of Palazzo Sanseverino in Marcellinara before a large audience.
Hosting the event was the Delegate for Calabria, Nobile Dott. Gianpietro Sanseverino dei Baroni di Marcellinara, whose Delegation, together with the Municipality and the Parish of Marcellinara, sponsored the important event in honor of the Performer of Miracles, Patron Saint of Calabria and of the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies. By way of exception, prior to the presentation of the book, the original portrait of the Saint, commissioned by the Sanseverino family, was exhibited to the public in the Chapel of the Palace.

At the invitation of the Chamber of Commerce of Cosenza, the Calabria Delegation of the Sacred Military Constantinian Order of Saint George attended the presentation of the book A Francesco di Paola che cammina sulle acque (To Francesco di Paola who walks on waters) by Mario Campanella and Rosaria Succurro of Cosenza, a work that contains a sonata dedicated to the Calabrian Saint, Patron of the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies, by the famous composer Franz Liszt. This important event, coinciding with the XI centenary of the birth of the Patron Saint of Calabria, was held in the Chamber of Commerce of Cosenza and moderated by Secretary General Erminia Giorno.
The event began with an introduction by the president of the Chamber, Klaus Algieri, who spoke of the importance of religious tourism for the Chamber of Commerce and its significant contribution to enhancing local development. He was followed by greetings from the Mayor of Cosenza, Mario Occhiuto, who spoke of the importance of planning a strategic development of the territory. The comments by Mons. Gianni Citrigno, Vicar General of the Archdiocese of Cosenza and Father Gregorio Colatorti, Provincial Corrector of the Order of Minims were of great symbolic and historical value. Read more

ST CRISTINA-3Santa Cristina Gela, Saturday, 16 July, 2016 –
A solemn Eucharistic celebration was held in the Diocese of Piana degli Albanesi, presided by Mons. Filippo Sarullo, Priest for the Cathedral of Palermo, concelebrated with the parish priest, Father Porfilio Traficante, to initiate the week of festivities in honor of Santa Cristina, the patron saint of the Sicilian town of Santa Cristina Gela. Present were the Mayor of Santa Cristina Gela, the Mayor of the town of Belmonte Mezzagno, representatives of the local religious confraternities, and a delegation of the Sacred Military Constantinian Order of St. George. Led by the Vice Delegate, the holy remains were brought from the Cathedral of Palermo where they are normally preserved in a silver urn of the sixteenth century. They were welcomed at the entrance of the small town and carried in procession into the church. During the homely Mons. Sarullo also paid tribute to the victims of the train accident in Puglia and the attack in Nice. The holy remains were returned to Palermo on July 25th. Read more

EQUINE ASSISTED THERAPY FOR THE DISABLED – A NEW PROJECT OF THE SICILY DELEGATION

Lanceri Aosta 27-7-16 006 - CopiaPalermo, Wednesday, 27 July, 2016 – A delegation of the Constantinian Order consisting of Vice Delegate Nobile dott. Antonio di Janni, Knight Grand Cross of Grace, and dott. Vincenzo Nuccio, Knight Commander of Merit, was received in the headquarters of the VI Lancers Regiment of Aosta in Palermo by Regimental Commander Colonel Spartaco Tassinari. In the course of the meeting the colonel explained how a series of equine assisted therapy sessions had been conceived and implemented to help disabled children improve their psychomotor functions. The children were helped by members of the military, psychologists and by qualified professional personnel. During the meeting they also discussed collaboration between the Sicilian Delegation of the Sacred Military Constantinian Order of St, George and the equestrian unit of the regiment to organize equine therapies for disabled youth, assisted by the delegation. At the conclusion of the meeting, the Vice Delegate presented a medal of the Sicilian Delegation in commemoration of the meeting.

Briciole di salute a palermoSicily, July 2016 –
The Sicilian Delegation is always very active with the program Crumbs for Health. The program was inaugurated in Palermo on July 18 and the first delivery of needed items (diapers, baby food and biscuits) for children of disadvantaged families aged 0 to 3 years took place in the Church of S. Francesco di Paola.
The distribution of baby products continued in the premises next to the Constantinian Church of S. Maria degli Agonizzanti, under the guidance of the Archbishop of Monreale, H.E. Mons. Michele Pennisi, Prior of the Delegation. The delegation also organized a collection of food products, lasting twelve hours, in a shopping center in Milazzo, province of Messina. By the end of the day they had collected 120 liters of milk, approximately 500 kilos of pasta and other food items to be donated to the needy.
