BOOK LAUNCH EVENT FOR “HISTORIES AND MEMOIRS OF THE ARCHBISHOPS OF MONREALE”

Monreale, 27 October 2015. A launch party for the book “Histories and Memoirs of the Archbishops of Monreale” written by Antonio di Janni, Vincenzo Nuccio and Don Giovanni Vitale and edited by CE.ST.E.SS., was held in the stunning halls of the Palazzo Arcivescovile in Monreale on 27 October 2015. This publication is concerned to provide a historical and biographical account of the high prelates who have performed duties of pastoral care in the Episcopal See of the Norman dioceses over the years. The book was introduced by Professor Manlio Corselli in the presence of the highest-ranking Dignitaries of the Constantinian Order; His Eminence Renato Raffaele Cardinal Martino; the Archbishop of Monreale, Michele Pennisi and the Eparch of Piana degli Albanesi, Giorgio Demetrio Gallaro. The event attracted great audience participation with several attendees showing a keen interest in the new publication. Also present on the day were numerous Constantinian Knights as well as many state and military officials.

Monreale, 27 October 2015: All the highest dignitaries of the Constantinian Order, along with the Vice Delegate for Sicily and HE Mons. Michele Pennisi, took part – accompanied by a Delegation of Knights and Dames of the Order – in a breakfast charity event held at the Balsamo Institute, founded by Mons. Benedetto Balsamo. The event saw the Delegation providing support to the staff from the Institute and to the nuns from the Archdiocese of Monreale. A great amount of aid was donated in order to create better living conditions in the hospice and to help with the handling of meal provision programmes catering for in-patients.

HRH Princess Beatrice, Grand Chancellor, donated a painting of the Institute’s founder, Mons. Balsamo and, together with the whole Delegation, was busy waiting on tables serving food for a group of charming elderly ladies.

Pavia – 26 October 2015. The Delegation of Pavia is to launch an important charitable initiative which aims to provide needy individuals with free meals at “The Young People’s House”, a site run by the Diocese of Pavia. The facility is known to tend to the needs of young people from socially-deprived backgrounds and is committed to the delivery of humanitarian assistance to marginalised senior citizens, vagrants and families experiencing financial hardships through their management of the “The Brother’s Canteen. This project, which was launched in January 2015, has so far delivered over 1,000 freshly-made meal trays at the local branch of the Italian Red Cross. This new charity event was made possible by the generous and unfailing support of Pharmaday Srl (pharmaceutical company and distributor of wholesale items). The charitable campaign is concerned to supply 5,500 ready-to-eat pre-portioned packaged meals, suitable for elderly people whose dietary requirements include a diet rich in nutrients. A further donation of 4,000 over-the-counter medicines is to be made by leading multinational Recktt Benckiser. The initiative has the full support of the Diocesan Caritas, the Banco Alimentare, the Italian Red Cross and the Dioceses offering canteen services to the needy. The Grand Prefect Augusto Ruffo di Calabria dei Principi di Scilla, H.I.H. The Archduke Martin of Austria-Este, the Delegate for Milan and Lombardy Count di Carpegna Brivio are scheduled to attend the event, along with the highest-ranking members of the Army, leading political figures operating at provincial and municipal level, not excepting HE the Prefect.

‘Bourbon Reggio 1734 – 1861’ Conference – Exhibition

Reggio Calabria, 25 October 2015. A conference titled “Bourbon Reggio: 1734 – 1861”, co-hosted by the Delegation of Calabria of the Sacred Military Constantinian Order of St George and the Ministry for Culture and National Heritage, is to take place at the National Archive in Reggio Calabria on 25 October 2015 at 9.30am.

Through the displaying of historic memorabilia and artefacts, the cultural initiative is aimed at raising public awareness of the close historical ties between the City of Reggio and the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies.

During the event, the Director of the National Archive, the President of the Two Sicilies’ Association, the County Councillor for Culture of Reggio Calabria, together with members of the Sacred Order from the Delegation of Calabria are also expected to cast much needed light on little-known historiographic details thought to be crucial for a deeper understanding of the strong relations forged between the City and the Royal House of Bourbon-Two Sicilies.

Reggio Calabria, 25 October 2015. Organised by the Delegation of Calabria of the Sacred Military Constantinian Order of St George and the “Ministry for Culture, Heritage and Tourism”, a convention/exhibition titled “Bourbon Reggio 1734-1861” was held at the “State Archive” in Reggio Calabria.

This key event, by presenting previously unknown historical material and by featuring a series of talks given by illustrious guests, has helped to retrace the history of the relations established between the city of Reggio and the Kingdom of Two-Sicilies in the past, which is a little-known topic in the field of historiography.

The meeting, which drew large numbers of people and was attended by representatives of various associations as well as by Knights and Benemerenti of the same Order, was opened by the Vice Delegate for Calabria of the Sacred Military Constantinian Order of St George, Mr Aurelio Badolati, Commander. Also speaking at the event were Mr Emanuele Nazario Scarlata, Knight of Merit; Councillor Eduardo Lamberti Castronuovo,  Head of the Department for Culture for the Province of Reggio; Professor Maria Carmelo Spadaro from the University of Naples ‘Federico II’; Ms Maria Giuseppina Marra, Director of the State Archive in Reggio Calabria. At the end of the conference, following the customary ceremonial cutting of the ribbon, an inauguration event marked the beginning of the exhibition which displayed previously unknown texts.
